Hi I’m Jamie, and welcome to Sew Happy Life!
I created this blog as a place to write about the things I am most passionate about – sewing, gardening, and homeschooling! As time goes on, I plan to add more posts with tutorials, projects, and more!
A little bit about me…
I have been sewing for as long as I can remember! As a kid, when I would go to visit my grandparents, I loved making a trip to the craft store to pick out a new cross stitch project to work on, and I think that’s where my love of sewing began! I even still have my very first cross stitch:
Some of the stitches are starting to come out after all these years, but it is proudly displayed in my sewing studio! As a teenager, I really wanted to learn how to use a sewing machine to sew my own clothes, and for my birthday I got a baby blue Kenmore.
I learned a lot (and made a lot of mistakes!) on that machine, and that was back in the days before YouTube – I had to open the manual and read it! Once I got into sewing, I soon became very interested in vintage patterns, and I still love to collect them and sew from them, because they are just so fabulous!
Nowadays, you will still find me sewing vintage patterns, dresses and costumes for my girls, and historical garments (clearly I was born in the wrong decade – or century 🙂 ). I also started a sewing studio in my dining room, teaching sewing to kids and adults, and I feel very blessed to be able to do what I love!
When I am not in the sewing studio, I love to be outside in my garden with my kids and my chickens. I love growing vegetables, herbs, and fruits and jamming as much as possible into a small growing space! I love to watch all the little creatures that come into my garden, and it’s a great learning opportunity for everyone too!
We have homeschooled for about 5 full years now, and we love our time spent with each other! Sometimes homeschooling can be a challenge, but I definitely feel it is worth it. We love to learn about nature, history, and read lots of good books! I have also written some curriculum for elementary aged students that I hope to publish very soon!
